The DHIIR

The Dharam Hinduja Institute of Indic Research (DHIIR) at Cambridge was established in January 1995 through a generous benefaction from the Hinduja Foundation (UK) in memory of Dharam Hinduja (1969-92), the son of Mr S. P. Hinduja, Chairman of the Hinduja Foundation (UK). The DHIIR closed down at the end of September 2004, after almost 10 years of operation.

The DHIIR was set up to study the Indic traditions (that is, those religio-cultural traditions with deep roots in the indian sub-continent) according to the highest standards of scholarship. The centre, however, also had a special mission, that is to share its research with the community at large in ways that could benefit people's lives practically.

From October 2000 to end September 2004 most of the DHIIR's energies were focussed on an innovative and topical research programme, the Indic Health and Medicine Research Programme (IHMRP).

Dedicated to the careful study of Yoga and Ayurveda in their classical and globalized forms, the IHMRP played a crucial role in putting the two key concepts of Modern Yoga and Modern Ayurveda on the academic and contemporary culture maps.

For further information regarding DHIIR activities, please check the Publications and Past Events pages. For information on ongoing research on Modern Yoga click here.
