In cooperation with the Weidenfeld Institute for strategic dialogue and the Coexist Foundation, The Cambridge Inter-Faith Programme was delighted to host the conference ‘Islam and Muslims in the World Today’ to which we invited academics and policy makers to listen to Muslim academics, community activitivists, religious leaders and scholars from Britain and abroad discuss issues affecting Muslims in the world today. Topics for debate ranged from the relationship of faith and the state to questions of citizenship, human rights, gender and education.
The emphasis of the Cambridge Inter-Faith Programme is on effecting deeper understanding of the three Abrahamic faiths through study of their history, scriptures, traditions, practices, ethics, law, philosophy, theology, sociology, and politics. Hosted by a project concerned with the particular identities of the Abrahamic faiths, our aim was for this conference to explore the resources the Muslim tradition has to contribute to contemporary issues and debate. We asked our speakers to challenge Western scholars and politicians to consider how countries such as Britain might adapt to better host the increasing number of diverse religious communities that have made their home here.
We had two days of stimulating and challenging debate, both in plenary sessions and in working groups. We will be working through the issues raised and material gathered from the conference and will be updating the website over the next week with the outcomes of the conference, so do visit it regularly to check for new material.

We will be posting your feedback from the conference as we receive it and would welcome any contributions
