Anglican Studies Reading Group

The Anglican Studies Reading Group meets again in Michaelmas Term 2017. This term we'll be considering the work of Michael Ramsey (1904-1988), Archbishop of Canterbury from 1961 to 1974 during a formative time for Anglican identity as the church faced the challenges and opportunities of engaging with contemporary culture, ecumenism, and political activism.
We will be reading selections from the compilation Glory Descending: Michael Ramsey and his Writings, ed. Douglas Dales, Geoffrey Rowell and Rowan Williams. We will meet on the following days from 3.30pm to 5pm in C2 (Front Court) of Emmanuel College: Tuesday, 17 Oct; Tuesday, 31 Oct, Tuesday, 14 Nov, and Tuesday, 28 Nov.

For the first session, we will be considering the first collection of readings centred around the theme, “The Word of God” (pp. 3-33), the reflection by John Habgood, "Michael Ramsey: Man of God" (pp. 139-150), as well as the short biographical introduction to the volume. Copies of the book are available in various libraries and online. A scanned version of the initial readings is also available from Alex Ross.

Members of the Faculty and the Federation are warmly invited to attend. Expressions of interest and questions should be directed to Alex Ross (ajr211@cam.ac.uk) or Danny Pegg (dp534@cam.ac.uk)
