Faculty of Divinity

The Faculty of Divinity is pleased to announce the addition of a new MPhil module to its Islamic Philosophy provision: Philosophy of Mind in Medieval Islamic Thought, taught by Dr Amal Awad. This module complements the existing offerings within the pathway, including Islamic Philosophical Theology: The Ashʿarī School (Dr Yasser Qureshy) and Science of Creation: Premodern Theories (Dr Suf Amichay). It introduces students to the rich and sophisticated debates on the soul, self-awareness, and cognition in the medieval Islamic tradition, focusing on key figures such as Avicenna, al-Ghazālī, Abū al-Barakāt al-Baghdādī, and Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī, and situating these discussions within their broader philosophical and theological contexts.
