Director of Studies, Christ's College



Mark Smith's research focuses on the history and theology of the early church. His doctorate, on fifth century church councils, was undertaken at Cambridge, and supervised by Thomas Graumann. Dr Smith is also the Chaplain and Director of Studies at Christ's College.    

Research Interests

  • The conciliar life of the early church
  • The construal of Christian 'orthodoxy'
  • The concept of the development of doctrine

Research Supervision

Dr Smith supervises papers in patristics, such as B6 (Christianity in Late Antiquity) and D2a (Councils in Context). For 2016-2017, he is the B6 Paper Coordinator.
