Online, open access symposium a success

Hjördis Becker, an Early Career Fellow at the Faculty recently participated in the online, open access “Forming Humanity” symposium hosted by Syndicate. Hjördis reported that the symposium was a great success and she hopes it will encourage others to try greener, more sustainable solutions to academic conferences once travel restrictions are lifted.

Congratulations to two of our colleagues in being recognised for their teaching: Dr Feriel Bouhafa has been awarded a Pilkington Prize for Teaching Excellence. Nadira Auty has been nominated for a CUSU Student-Led Teaching Award. It is wonderful to see the teaching of Islamic studies so well recognised in the University.

It is with great sadness that the Faculty has learned of the death of Sir Roger Scruton. In 2011-12 he gave the Stanton Lectures in the Faculty. In 2018 Sir Roger attended the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate the diploma in theology that he helped set up in communist Czechoslovakia.
