The Faculty is delighted to welcome Dr Emily Qureshi-Hurst as our Teaching Associate in Theology and Natural Science for the coming academic year.
Dr Emily Qureshi-Hurst is a philosopher whose writing focuses on the interface between science and religion, particularly physics and Christianity. She has written on issues in the philosophy of religion, the physics and metaphysics of time, quantum mechanics, and social media. She has also participated in several cross-disciplinary collaborations with scholars from philosophy, theology, and physics.
Dr Qureshi-Hurst completed a D.Phil in Science and Religion in 2021 at the University of Oxford under the expert supervision of Professor Alister McGrath. Following this, she was a Junior Research Fellow at Pembroke College, Oxford (2021-2024) and a College Lecturer in Philosophy at Oriel College, Oxford (2022-2024). Her first book God, Salvation, and the Problem of Spacetime was published by Cambridge University Press in 2022. Her second book, Salvation in the Block Universe: Time, Tillich, and Transformation is forthcoming Cambridge University Press.
Alongside her academic work, Dr Qureshi-Hurst is committed to sharing ideas with wider audiences. She has written about her research for magazines and blogs, and has appeared on BBC Radio 3, New Scientist events, and podcasts to discuss issues relating to science, religion, and philosophy.
