The Lewis and Gibson Scholarship

1. The scholarship is awarded at the discretion of the Lewis and Gibson Electors.

2. Preference will be given to candidates who are either an active member of the United Reformed Church, or of a member-church of the World Communion of Reformed Churches which is not established by the State.

3. Priority will be given to a candidate who has been recognised by their church as a candidate for the ministry, but who has not yet been ordained.

4. The scholar is normally expected to be a graduate of a recognised university.

5. The scholar is required to reside in Cambridge, and to be a member of Westminster College. Electors expect that the scholar will contribute to the life of the College community.

6. The scholar is required to study in the University of Cambridge for a degree or diploma (normally a degree) in Theology. The Electors wish to encourage applications for the taught M.Phil. in theology, or from a doctoral student. The scholar must go through the University's own admission procedures: the scholarship does not guarantee admission; separate negotiations are needed.

7. The Electors are required to award the scholarship on merit.

Applications should be made FAO the Principal of Westminster College, Madingley Road, Cambridge, CB3 0AA (admin@westminster.cam.ac.uk) with the following information:

1. Name, address, contact details;

2. Academic qualifications;

3. Proposed university course with dates (and whether or not accepted);

4. Research topic (if a research degree);

5. Church affiliation and how this is actively being pursued;

6. Other sources of funding applied for;

7. Advantages the scholar would bring to the community at Westminster College.

8. Name and contact details for one academic and one personal referee.

While the Lewis and Gibson Fund can usually offer fairly substantial funding, scholars will need to find other sources of funding in order to meet all costs.
